| Newground is an acoustic bluegrass
band based in the Central Alabama area. Their material includes traditional,
contemporary, gospel and original music.
The band has been together for several years and is well-known in the Southeast. They have played local festivals, including Tuscaloosa’s annual CityFest, Kentuck Festival, Montgomery’s Jubilee Festival, and many community civic benefits. They play regularly for University of Alabama functions. They are featured several times a year on the University of Alabama’s bluegrass radio show, WUAL. They-have also -been involved with Bluegrass In the Schools – helping to make young people aware of what bluegrass music is and allowing them to experience an American art form. Band members are Jim Langford on banjo and strong lead vocals. Jim is a former member of the Grammy-nominated Doug Dillard Band. His wife, Terry, plays bass and sings lead and harmony vocals; Josh Langford, mandolin and vocals; and Sarah Langford, guitar and lead and harmony vocals. Newground released an all-gospel project entitled “Here Today, Gone Tomorrow” in 2000, which features several former band members. It offers a varied selection of vocal material, including “Kept and Protected,” “Hills of Glory,” “When the Angels Carry Me Home,” “Wayfaring Stranger,” and several others. The band’s most visible qualities are strong vocals and tight harmony, and they always feature hot pickin’. Newground would be a solid addition to any lineup and would truly enjoy working for you, at your festival or other venue. Contact: Jim Langford at (205) 349-1613 for bookings. |
